She's Crafty!

You know what’s ironic about this title? I’m not crafty. At all. You’ll remember that time I made gold-stemmed monogrammed wine glasses with my friend Taylor? The only reason that even happened was because she came up with the concept and had the requisite supplies. I just showed up and ate her food and graced her with my loud voice. But just because I’m not naturally crafty doesn’t mean I don’t WANT to be. From what I can tell, I have all the characteristics of Martha Stewart: demanding, curt, perfectionist with unrealistic expectations of other people, etc. So when my friend Ashlee invited me over for a craft day this past weekend, I couldn’t stay away. I took to Pinterest to scour my “Stuff I Should Make” board and settled on yet another craft from which I could imbibe things: glittered Starbucks cups.
Because I’m only one degree of separation away from the aforementioned goddess of all things DIY, I naturally hit up her section of Michael’s for supplies. I bought a gold and bright pink glitter…
…a glue made especially for glitter…

…and of course the “Make it Your Own” Starbucks cups. I had to go to 3 different Starbucks to find these! You need to make sure to buy the kind that actually twist apart.

To quote Nelly Furtado, I’m like a bird. I love shiny stuff!

In a hilariously demonstrative case-in-point, I nearly ruined my craft by painting the outer cup’s interior with glue and shaking the glitter all around. I assumed the glue would dry clear, but when I looked at the outside and saw how milky white the cup still looked, I turned to my friends Ashlee and Whitney and asked whether they thought the glue would dry clear. They said no. I then rushed into the house and washed the glue and glitter out of the cup. Luckily, it was easily removed and all was not lost.
So what I learned was that you have to paint the outside of the INSIDE cup with glue and roll that in glitter, like so.

I made the gold one for myself, because, like, obviously, but I actually ended up liking the pink one that I made for my mom (Merry Early Christmas!!) even more.

After spending all of 15 minutes on my craft, it was time for a snack break. Snacks and crafting, people. This is what it’s all about. Since I was at Starbucks, I procured the last 3 salted caramel cake pops and shared them with my fellow crafters. They were a delicious combination of caramel, chocolate, and sea salt.

As I allowed my cups to dry, Ashlee put the finishing touches on her adorable burlap fall wreath…

…and Whitney made like, a dozen of these super cute rings using wire and pliers.

I think it’s fair to say I’m still not much of a crafter, but I’m pretty damn pleased with how my cups turned out. I really enjoy the idea of people thinking I’m drinking glitter. God, I wish that were possible.

Are you a crafter? What kinds of things to you craft?? Do you totally wanna copy me and make these cups now??

Then I practically wet myself when I read I was getting one for Christmas! After that, I couldn't even focus on the rest of the post, but the cake pops did catch my attention and they looked delicious!!!! So excited for my glitter cup! It will be my new favorite!
