If you’ve ever read a recap following a vacation I’ve been
on, you’ll know it’s generally all about the food for me. I’ll spend weeks in
advance plotting out the tasty delights I plan to devour with little regard for
my body when I know I’m going on a trip. But when Kyle and I went to LA last
weekend, I spent more time day dreaming about the celebrities I would meet (and did) and where I would get discovered for my “big break.” Clearly, I'm still trying to figure that one out. We walked up and down Venice Beach and Santa Monica, and only once
did I think about stopping for a churro! I was so taken with the sunshine, the
sea breeze, the lack of humidity, and the potential shopping opportunities,
that I didn’t even care about what we ate. With one exception.
In-N-Out Burger has intrigued me from the first time I heard
about it in college. This was the first time I lived outside of Texas, and in
the melting pot that is Ohio, I met people from the land of beautiful people:
California. They told me tales of surfing, earthquakes, and celebrities, but
they also pined over In-N-Out burgers and their secret menu. So, minutes after
landing in LA, I told Kyle’s brother that one of the few requirements of the
trip was that we go to In-N-Out. “I just wanna see what it’s all about,” I
said. Little did I know, that’s actually their slogan. I’m practically the Don
Draper of the fast food world!!!
After hiking to the Hollowood sign, we were in need of fuel.
I don’t know about you, but when I think of refueling this ol’ gas tank, I think
of meat, cheese, and animal sauce. So, we high-tailed it over to In-N-Out and
ordered cheeseburgers and cheese fries, Animal style, which basically means
grilled onions and secret sauce (I think it’s thousand island…not so secret
anymore!!).
To say this was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had would
not be an overstatement. It was literally one of the best burgers I’ve ever
had. I like my patties thin, like these, and the way they cheese melted all
over the meat…just stop. I can’t. And these fries??? Just look at them. There
are no words.
I finished my entire burger and fries. I don't even feel a little bit bad about it. Oh, and I forgot to
mention that we also split a chocolate milkshake (delicious). You gotta go,
man!!!
Who’s been to In-N-Out? Am I exaggerating here or is it quite possible one of the best burger joints of all time? What’s your favorite burger place???
This post is so, so cruel. The ONE THING that I miss more than anything about CA (I moved to Seattle from CA) is In n Out. Nothing compares. I don't care what anyone says- nothing compares. It is sheer amazingness and crack cocaine of burgers. I'm glad you were as in love as I am.
ReplyDeleteIn N Out is my favorite thing of all time and I am insanely jealous right now!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I go to Phoenix, AZ a few times a year and we literally go straight from the airport to In 'n Out. It is by far one of the best burgers I have ever had. And now I hate you a little bit for posting all these pictures. :) Glad you enjoyed it!

We dream of In 'N Out all year, til we vacation in AZ in March.... and we too, head straight there from the airport.. and eat there several times in the week... Animal style is the best!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait til March!!!
Ohhhhhh the goodnesssssss!!!
(drooling and dreaming!!)
Well now I'm drooling.
ReplyDeleteOur vacations are also planned around food. We are headed to NOLA in a few weeks and literally getting there as early as possible to eat as much as possible during our time there.
I would say it's the best fast food burger of all time, and the fries are excellent. However, I live in LA and people talk about craving it all the time... yeah, I haven't reached that point.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm starving, thanks...but seriously I constantly hear about how great this place is from my boyfriend bc he lived in CA! These photos are making me want to book a trip there right now just to eat one!

Those fries look amazing. I've never been to one of these, but I have anxiety over the first time I go because of the coded lingo. Which I also get every time I go to Starbucks.
ReplyDeleteI've never been, but it looks awesome! Glad you enjoyed yourself! And, yes... definitely channeled Mr. Draper there. New career? I think so.
ReplyDeleteYES. OMG. I live in CA and in-n-out is one of the best things about that! Living here it isn't even weird to hear someone say they went there three times a week. And that person might have been me...last week...
ReplyDeleteHaha

"In N Out, In N Out! That's what a hamburger's all about!" Best.fries.ever.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the best! No matter how long a location has been open, their drive thru line is always soooooo long during lunch and dinner hours. There is one right by my work that I have actually never been to and one not far from home that I don't think I have been to either. Don't you worry though, I ate my fair share back in the day when they first came to Northern California.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am so jealous you met Jenna Marbles. I was in LA, Santa Monica to be exact, the same weekend you were.
We had In n Out in Reno NV, where I used to live (it was quite exciting when they opened two locations because everyone used to stop at the Auburn CA location) and it is definitely an amazing burger. Now I've relocated to NYC though and I feel like I have to try Shake Shack one of these days just to compare!

You should have gotten a neapolitan milkshake too! Mmmm... Animal style fries and a neapolitan milkshake. Kinda dying right now. We recently went home to California for a visit and In-N-Out was at the top of my to-eat list. If only they could come out to DC...
ReplyDeleteits heaven and now im starving at 11:00PM
ReplyDeletedamn you, you in-n-out demons!
the egg out west.
I live in San Diego where we have a couple of these and you are definitely NOT exaggerating!
ReplyDeleteI hate fast food, but eat in-n-out weekly :)
ReplyDeleteI live in Canada and have always heard about In-and-Out burger and really want to try it!
ReplyDeletei've always wanted to try in-n-out! i' m a huge burger and fry freak. and i like the same: thin patty, cheese all over, shoestring fries.
ReplyDeleteif you're ever in charlotttesville, i cannot recommend going to riverside grill (or their sister restaurant, riverside north) enough. it's my favorite version of burgers and fries anywhere.
