If you didn't have the pleasure of growing up in Texas as I did, you weren't exposed to a variety of cultural experiences that would undoubtedly shape your upbringing:
- Frito Pie
- Feeder Roads
- Cheerleading Murdering Moms
Chances are good you could encounter all three of these things at a Luby's, another Texas institution. Imagine the kind of place where the old and young alike can eat their chicken fried steak and green Jell-O in cowboy-boot-wearing harmony.
This is Luby's.
And now, they're making your Halloween celebrations just a teeny more special, offering "fa-BOO-lous" (their words, not mine!) ghost themed cupcakes by the half dozen.
I don't particularly condone Luby's as the ideal place for purchasing your holiday cupcakes, but hey, they're pretty cheap, and they do look good. Someone needs to order these and let me know how they turn out. But watch out for that mom giving you the stink eye over the salad bar. You never know who's packing heat down there.

Pumpkin Pie Frosting
Alright, there's no two ways about it: this post is not exclusive to cupcakes alone.
That said, I think pumpkin pie turned frosting would be absolutely delicious on a variety of cupcakes: chocolate, spice, carrot...PUMPKIN!!! And it doesn't even require you to be a baker (although we all know how I feel about that). AND it's gluten free!! Just go pick up a pie from your local grocer, remove the crust and get going!

Step 1: Get a pie. Any pie! One without a crust is easier to use.
Step 2: 'Member that pie from Step 1? Now take a slice
and put it in a piping bag. Crazy Brillz!!!
and put it in a piping bag. Crazy Brillz!!!
Step 3: Pipe that pie!! Can you smell the pumpkin-ness
wafting from the screen...because I can!

"The Anatomy of a Georgetown Cupcake Line"
Anyone that's been on M Street on a day that ends in the letter "y" has no doubt seen the mile-long lines, snaking around the corners of Georgetown's oldest rowhouses, coming from Georgetown Cupcake. You'd think these people were waiting in line for water in Rwanda, braving DC's harshest elements for the possibility of a brush with cupcake greatness.
If you've seen this operational disaster in action, you've probably asked yourself "who ARE these people?" Well, Geoffrey Bible at Vox Populi has done the legwork for us, asking the tough questions to real GCLWs (Georgetown Cupcake Line-Waiters) and the results are both fascinating and not surprising:

If you're looking for more insight into these crazies, read the full poll results here.
My favorite highlight from the poll:
"An upset-looking man told us that he only was standing in the line because he loves his wife and she likes Georgetown Cupcake, but he would much rather be at Baked & Wired."
Ahh, love. What an inconvenience.

Well now's your chance, because CSN Stores is letting me give one of these beauties to one very lucky reader! All I have to do is say "dutch ovens" and we are good to go! ('Parently they sell dutch ovens, in the event you're in the market for something like that.)
So, would you like to have it?? All you have to do is tell me in the comments section what your favorite cupcake flavor is. I'll pick a winner at random (using Random.org, so it'll be legit, y'all) next Tuesday, October 19th at 12 PM EST, so no more comments after then! Happy Comment-ing!

I Can Haz Cheezburger...Cupcake?
If you've ever used a computer, chances are pretty good you've seen some kind of internet meme. Don't know what a "meme" is, you say? Well look it up!!! This isn't DefinitionsofwordsyoushouldknowbynowOMG! (I like this definition, btw)
Whether you know what it means or not, you've seen them. One of my favorites is a lil' ol' site called www.icanhascheezburger.com. It's basically pictures of cats, begging if they might be rewarded for their cuteness with a juicy bite of cheeseburger.
What does this have to do with cupcakes, you ask? Boy, you sure do ask a lot of questions!!! Well, if you must know, the folks over at Bake it in a Cake have taken it to whole 'nuther level:

Whoaaaaa, what's this....?
OMG, cheezeburger cupcake?!?!
And this, kids, is how another internet meme was born.

Who Said Cupcakes Aren't Healthy?
When you shove a piece of broccoli into anything, it immediately becomes health food. At least, that's how I would justify eating a buttery, cheesy savory cupcake like this one:

The broccoli stands like a mighty oak tree, bathed by a warm autumn sunlit sky. I say "out with the cornbread of yesteryear!" These should be served at every holiday gathering this year. Get the recipe here.
