Friday Fun Find: Custom Reebok Crossfit Nano

You all know that I’m something of a clotheshorse (despite the lack of outfit posts for the past several months, which I plan to rectify next week—by the way, does the word ‘rectify’ sound gross to anyone else???), but did you also know that I’m quite the shoe collector?

I have no idea what’s considered a normal amount vs. a lot of shoes for a girl in her 20’s, but I can say that I currently own about 40 pairs of shoes. The collection breaks down into 50% heels, 25% sandals/flats, 22.5% boots, and 2.5% sneakers. Now, I’m not very good with the mathematics, but that means that of all my footwear, only 1 pair could be classified as “sneakers.” What’s more, I’ve owned said sneakers for well over 5 years. I may not work out as much as I should, but there was a time I was a pretty regular participant at Crossfit, and now I have twice-a-week personal trainer sessions, which means despite my belief sneakers should be worn NOWHERE except the gym, it was high time to put my 5-year-old sneakers out of their misery. Of course, if I was going to go out and spend my “shoe budget,” as Kyle refers to it, on a shoe that didn’t have at least a three inch heel on it, it had to be a little flashy. Enter the Reebok Crossfit Nano customizable sneak

These shoes were designed especially to handle the intensity of a Crossfit workout and probably designed to keep your heels planted firmly into the ground and to be lightweight enough to transition from weightlifting to intense bouts of cardio, but none of that mattered to me. What mattered to me was my ability to customize them.

I realize this is nothing new—Nike’s been doing this forever—but I just hate being like everyone else, so until the Reebok Crossfit sneakers take down the Nike Frees, I figure owning these shoes basically makes me better than everyone else.

Naturally, I customized mine to include an electric hot pink. To keep them from being too loud, though, I accented them with bright blue and neon green. I just love how the smallest details like the lace holes are customizable!

The site says these custom shoes will take 7-9 weeks but mine arrived in about 4, so I've been wearing them to my workouts this week. They’re incredibly light and the ventilation on the toes keeps you comfortable throughout a workout—I feel like a girl of 26 in them! In my matching pink tank and reflective zebra striped shorts, I feel like a drag queen, which, if you ask me, is exactly what you should be going for at the gym!

How many pairs of shoes do you own? How often do you replace your sneakers?? Do you like my new shoes???

  3. Those are crazy bright. And 40 pairs? Still less than Carrie and that other first lady, but compared to me, that's a ton! I think I have five or six pairs

  5. Those shoes would definitely motivate me to get into the gym! I probably have aroun 20 pairs of shoes, but I only wear 5 on a regular basis!!

  6. I own a lot and I don't wear most of them. I just realized that I should probably sift through them sometime...

  7. OMG! I had no idea sneakers could be so cute! I think I may have to consider ordering a pair! I would totally wear that outfit. Just not *gasp* to the gym. But definitely to walk the dogs! It takes a Texas girl to put together an "outfit" for the gym. I'm so proud of you!
P.S. I just did a quick headcount, and I have 51 pairs of shoes, 9 pair of boots, 9 pairs of flipflops, and 12 (maybe more, because that number is a little embarrassing!) houseshoes. But hey, it's not like my feet are still growing, right?

  8. I don't have too many pairs of shoes...as I say in denial. I have a few good pairs that I love, but other than that I probably have around 20 pairs?

  9. These are cute. I usually replace mine every 6 months? Depending on how much I'm running. I think they say you should replace them every 600 miles.

  11. HOLY SHIT. I. Need. These. Sneakers.

I've been told in the past that athletes are supposed to replace their running shoes every 500 miles or so. Is that still true? If so, my current pair is about 1,000 miles overdue for a replacement, which means I can order a pair of these sneakers right now without any guilt whatsoever. SUCCESS.

PS -- I own at least 20 pairs of shoes, probably closer to 30. By my boyfriend's standards, I am completely insane. At least I fit in here?
