And I Had the Time of My Life

I'm fairly certain that every girl imagines themselves as one of the characters from Sex & the City or The Golden Girls. (Clearly I'm the Samantha and Blanche, respectively.) In part, it's because of the wardrobes, but it's also in part because of the cheesecake.

And then still, there's that whole the-best-friends-a-girl-could-ever-have kind of thing. If you told me 6 months ago that following Blogger Blitz DC I'd have three new BFF's, I'd have told you "hey you, don't you know I hate meeting new people?!?"But despite my best misanthropic efforts, I somehow managed to find real, true, laugh-til-it-hurts, miss-them-when-they're-gone, send-neverending-group-email-chains-that-last-days-on-end kind of friends in Whitney, Megan, and Jenna. And if that weren't lucky enough, it turns out one of them (Megan of Freckled Italian fame) lives on a lake. A mother effing house on a lake, y'all. And she invited us to stay with her this past weekend. It would have been RUDE to say no, so clearly we went, and we carpe'd the shit out of the diem. Here are some of the highlights:

The Food
Megan and her mom are paleo-philes. I just made that word up...how do we like it? We ate mostly paleo, but then we undid all those good deeds with alcohol, sugar, and a late-night trip to Sonic, seen here.
{Spinach Artichoke and goat cheese dip}
{Chicken salad with homemade mayo}
{Probably the best margaritas I've ever had, made by Megan's brother Sean}
{Tuna tacos with pineapple salsa}
{Sean served as our live-in chef, chauffeur, musician, and constant laugh track for the weekend}
{Tuna, that Sean caught, with wasabi and coconut milk sauce}
{Pineapple Coconut creme brulee}
{Mr. Kettle Korn}
{The best plate of anything. Ever.}
{Breakfast frittata on our last morning at the lake}
{A popcorn dress. And yes, I would absolutely wear it.}
The Lake
Smith Mountain Lake was used for the pivotal scene in the Patrick Swayze classic Dirty Dancing, when Johnny and Baby practice the infamous lift. It was also the view from the hot tub, which we rarely left.
{Thank you Jenna for letting me steal this picture}

The Friends
I'm an only child, but if I could choose siblings, I'd choose these girls to be my sisters. And if I could choose a personal chef, it would be Megan's brother Sean.
 {The theatre room greets patrons with a Bridget Jones' Diary poster.
This family loves British rom coms, what can I say?}
 {Here's where we developed a drinking game based on Megan's master thesis about Disney Princesses. Can you say "Hammered Ever After"?}
  {Jenna of The Paleo Project}
 {Whitney of Cheerios and Beer}
 {Megan of Freckled Italian}
 {I got to stir the Kettle Korn!}
 {Whitney has the perfect profile. Dammit}
{Jenna has the perfect poses}
 {Megan has the perfect hair}
 {I'm just plain perfect}
{Aw, what am I saying? We ALL are!}
{Us in 50 years. I'm holding out for cuter shoes, though.}

What's the last fun girls vacay you had? And which Sex & the City character ARE you?!?!
