Friday Fun Find: Emi-Jay Hair Ties

For almost the entirety of 4th and 5th grade, I wore my then spiral-permed hair in a ponytail. I wasn't the kind of girl who was blessed with naturally straight, flat hair that could easily air dry into a fly-away-free mane before lunch. I was Curly Sue. And not in a good way.

Eventually, I discovered hair straightening, which freed me from the perm shackles I wore most of my life (you can't live in Texas if you don't have big hair), which I did until I discovered hair color and learned that doing both would leave me with no hair at all. When I finally felt good about my hair in high school, I decided wearing it in a ponytail was basically akin to being ashamed of yourself and wearing a bag over your head.

Then I went off to college, discovered all-you-can-eat dining halls, sweat pants, and sorority meetings and started wearing ponytails all over again. Then I grew up a little and evolved my ponytails into ballerina buns, twist and pin bun-hawks, and fishtail braids. And then, I discovered Emi-Jay hair ties, and decided all other hair ties were officially dead to me and whatever hairstyle I was wearing.

Emi-Jay hair ties are made of a really soft, stretchy fabric that doesn't pull or tug on my hair. They come in a variety of amazing colors and patterns (I have the pastel and gold glitter collections) to suit every style. They also make headbands, which I'm hoping will make me look super cute in the gym. Also, I'm hoping they motivate me to go to the gym. What I'm saying is, I hope they're magic.

Here's a terrible iPhone photo of me wearing the pink hair tie:
Has anyone else tried Emi-Jay hair ties? Does anyone else want to share an embarrassing hair story from childhood? Tell me all your hairy (see what I did there??) secrets in the comments!!

The link to their site says they're not washable and shouldn't come in contact with water. So how long do they last before you have to replace?

Okay, here's mine: when I was in fourth grade, I decided the tighter I wore my hair, the better. I began wearing a bun. With one scrunchy. I discovered the more scrunchies, the tighter my hair looked. There was a point when I wore 4 scrunchies on my bun, loads of hair spray and was practically bald looking. I felt like the prettiest girl in middle school.

I was wrong.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up. (see what I DID there...)

my hair is in a ponytail 95% of the time.

i am so glad we are friends. because no one else would tell me i need to get in front of the curve and buy new hair ties.

and no one else would make my eyelashes look inferior. because you just made me jealous all over again.

I have been using Emi-Jay hair ties for about a year now and I love them. I often wash my hair and night and put it in a bun, and these hair ties are great for that.

They definitely stretch over time, which I've actually come to like. I definitely would wash them and don't think it would hurt.

Places like Sephora are making knockoff's now but I don't think the fabric and stretch is as great as the Emi-Jays. Love, love, love these!

So, when I was in middle school I was brushing my hair in class with a round brush and rolled it up under, and it got stuck. I mean REALLY stuck. I couldn't get the brush out of my hair and my Grandmother had to come get me and it took her 2 hours to get it out, picking at it with a needle...

I love these! I got one in my birchbox a few months ago. At first I thought it was incredibly odd, but after using them my super fine hair stayed in the ponytail ALL DAY, unheard of for me.

Love your blog!

Hi! I just found your blog via Across the Pond and I'm your newest follower! I'm seriously so glad I discovered your blog because my husband and I both just read a Paleo book and are just starting the journey of eating that way. This was his idea initially and at first was like umm no are you joking, but now I've discovered there are so many great blog resources out there that you can really eat such a variety of food! I was looking back at some of your TwoFaced posts and I absolutely love all the great ideas! Have a lovely weekend! xoxo

Dude, your lashes are amazing!

Oh and I have SO man bad hair stories! That's how I know what to do now. Years of trial and error (and lots of error)

I think the worst was a blunt bob in my curly frizzy hair, and I was only 11 and didn't own a hair dryer or use any products. I also had a fringe. Disaster.

Can you believe my sister gave me this haircut, and she was a qualified stylist at the time. We're back on speaking terms now ;)

I just got one of these in my March Birchbox! It held my slippery hair all through yesterday's jog.

I had horrible bangs in elementary school. My mom also made me get a perm in high school. It was not her best parenting moment.

these hair ties are the best! i found the same colored elastic at my local fabric store... so now i just make my own!

PS: in 4th great i had bangs that were cut way too far back.... so basically i had crazy large bangs, a
madonna gap in between my front teeth, and was a awkwardly tall girl scout all at the same time. wasn't me best year yet ;))

happy friday! Vanessa

With this sentence and a reference in a previous post mentioning upper and lower 'lady bits,' you've won.

I give you my heart.

I have super curly hair also and didn't know what to do with it at all until I was about 18 how embarrassing is that? I pretty much looked like Hermione Granger from Harry Potter...yes. I learned the magic of mousse for curly hair and also straighteners for a bit of change!
ps. I'm so glad I found your blog through Megan's blog! you are hilarious!

Awesome blog, I appreciate you work. With sweat pants you can make lots of combinations. There are so many choices, like tees are very famous, tank tops and many other.
