Has anyone seen the TLC trainwreck "My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding?" Do yourself a favor and set your DVR NOW. I'll wait. Go ahead.
You back? Okay, good. You really haven't lived until you've seen what I can only describe as a combination of Toddlers & Tiaras, the Royal Wedding, and The Jersey Shore. Unlike the head scarf, flowy skirt, bangle-wearing gypsies I was expecting, turns out there's the whole underground white trash gypsy culture called Irish Travellers. Distinguishing characteristics of Irish Travellers include a penchant for slutty clothes, a skewed understanding of Catholicism, and sexual assault as a means of flirtation. In other words, a typical night on the town with Snooki.
Ironically, all the slutty, tacky outfits from the first two episodes had me feeling inspired to bring out my own inner Gypsy. But I decided to make my look more Steve Nicks and less Euro-trash.
Kyle and I had tickets to Savor, a craft brewery event in DC. The tickets explicitly requested us to "Dress to Impress." I obliged. I decided I wanted to wear my new accordion-pleat blue skirt, but was having trouble finding the right top. Then I remembered a printed mini-dress I bought in the spring and decided it would make a great top.
I love it when I'm right.
My favorite ostentatious rings and an armful of bracelets top everything off.
Okay, so I felt a little inspired by the slutty gypsies...
