A CupcakesOMG!-Sponsored Paleo Challenge

Last weekend in Miami, I horrified Kyle by admitting that I'm always thinking about/planning my next meal. If I'm eating breakfast, I'm thinking about lunch. If I'm eating lunch, I'm thinking about dinner. And if I'm eating dinner, I'm thinking about finding a way to sneak chocolate chips cookies into the apartment after Kyle has gone to sleep. I'd apologize, but I'm sorry I'm not sorry that I love food.
I wish I could tell you that my obsession with food begins and ends with how we show love in my family, but my mom did all kinds of things beyond cooking and baking to prove she loved me (coming home with bags of clothes for me during high school was always a huge hit, not to mention, of course, my parents' actual telling of how much they loved and supported me). So I guess I'll just have to chalk it up to the fact that I'm a fat kid at heart/belly.

It is because of the fact that I could probably give Aretha Franklin a run for her money at a Vegas buffet that I try to maintain some semblance of health and restraint by eating a predominantly paleo diet. I say "predominantly" because, well, I eff up sometimes a lot, as evidenced here, here, and here. What I came to realize in recent months is that I'm taking far too many liberties with my paleo lifestyle and now my pants are paying for it, and that is why I will be embarking on a 30-day Paleo Challenge starting in March.

I've done a couple paleo challenges before (some of you might refer to it as a Whole 30) and I always feel great following them. I'm specifically referring to how I feel in my clothes, but yeah, sure there's the whole mind-body-spirit nonsense too. But I've been through enough of these to know that they're tough to do on your own, which is why I wanted to to formally extend an invitation to the entire Cupcult to join in the CupcakesOMG! March Paleo Challenge with me!

Never done a Paleo Challenge before? Here's a quick summation:
- Strict paleo eating for 30 days
- No dairy of any kind (cheese, yogurt, milk, etc.)
- No sweetener/sugar of any kind (maple syrup, honey, agave, etc.)
- No grains of any kind (whole wheat, whole grain, or otherwise)
- No beans of any kind (including hummus, black beans, or soy beans/edamame)
- No soy. Period.
- No alcohol
- You should also probably work out in some way.

I won't lie to you--it's definitely gonna have an impact on your social life, but let's face it, if you're out of college, you probably should cool it on the binge drinking anyway.

You're probably asking yourself "So Melissa, this sounds pretty Les Mis. Why should I bother?" Great question, you! You should bother because I'm putting together a twice a week newsletter chock full of information, guidelines, recipes, and tips to keep you on track and motivated day by day.* It'll basically be like having me there to hold your hand the whole time. Except I would never hold your hand...too many germs, man.

Interested in signing up and receiving your own completely free CupcakesOMG! Paleo Challenge guide?? Leave me a comment with the email address where you'd like to receive correspondence and a reason why you're joining the challenge. I'll be sending out the first guide on Monday, March 5th, so get your grain, sugar, and alcohol-binging out of the way now!

I've been trying to motivate myself to get in on this. I've been eating a (loosely) Paleo diet for weeks and I'm not getting the results I want. I think I'm in desperate need of guidance as no one I know will do it with me :(

  12. Allow me to be the first person to leave a comment and not sign up for this. Right now, as I'm typing this, I'm eating a Chipotle Burrito Bowl with black beans, cheese, and sour cream, asking myself if I could not be friends with cheese for 30 days. Pretty sure I'd kill myself. In a vat of melted cheese.

Good luck to you though-- it looks like you have a pretty solid group so far, and I know you're all going to feel way better than me in a month!! I promise this will be my last comment for the next 30 days in which I discuss how much I love dairy.

  16. This is a great idea! I've been struggling with staying on the paleo track for a while now. My motivation is high for a week or two and then emotional eating takes over. The problem is I have such bad food sensitivities that if I don't eat paleo I get so sick and sluggish it's hard to function.
    I need help!!
