I hate posting iPhone pictures--like, loathe it--but sometimes, you have to put aside your personal preferences for the greater good. And today, the greater good is sharing two amazing, potentially life changing finds with y'all. At 2 PM on a Friday. I'm off my blog game a bit. But guys. It's worth it.
I don't even remember how I stumbled upon Pure Wraps, but the important thing is that I did. They make eating wraps possible on a paleo or gluten free diet. They're made entirely out of coconut meat and coconut water. That's IT. And yeah, you'd be totally right to be skeptical--do they taste like coconut? Do they hold up well? Do they have a weird texture? All fair and reasonable concerns. We've been burned by many a fraudulent paleo sandwich/wrap option in the past (i.e., breads made with nut flours), but these, my friends, are the real deal. There's only 4 in a package and at $4.99 a pop, cheap they are not, but it's a great option if you really feel a hankerin' for a wrap/sandwich (I bought them online here but they do have availability at stores throughout the US, just check their website). I made a prosciutto and apple wrap with my homemade mayo for Kyle the other night. We were both over the moon with the results! You could even make a quesadilla with these bad boys!
"But Melissa, we can't eat cheese on Paleo...duh!" Au contraire my friends, for I found this today at Whole Foods in the vegan/dairy/egg free refrigerated section.
Similar to the vegan recipes for cashew cheese, this packaged cheese is made from almonds! It's gluten and lactose free, and just as the package suggests, it's melts! Here, let me prove it to you:
Just a plain ol' slice of cheese, just hangin' out.
Thinly sliced strips layered on the aforementioned Pure Wrap and my homemade mayo, because why not.
Nuked in the microwave for 10 second intervals--about 30 seconds total. And it's melty, cheesy goodness!!!
I just wanted to see if the package claims were true, otherwise, I would have gussied things up a bit, maybe with some sauteed onions, grilled chicken, cilantro, and salsa and had myself a burrito!
The only catch? There is a scant amount of brown rice flour in the cheese, so I wouldn't advise it if you're doing strict paleo (not that I said I was doing that or anything JUST YESTERDAY!), but as a dairy-free option in a dairy-free paleo/primal diet, it's a great option to avoid undoing all your good intentions.
DAMN, look at that cheese!!!Has anyone tried either of these products? What did you think? Do you know of other paleo versions of foods like these worth trying?

I almost texted you to say: Do pure wraps for Friday Fun Find!!!! The cheese melts and certainly looks delicious!!! does it taste good?
Ahhh I was hoping to pick up some pure wraps but $4.99 for 4? :( Too expensive, man! Though I will try to check out the almond cheese. I'm trying to go dairy-free (ugh so hard I love butter) and I miss cheese so much.
WAIT. WAIT! That cheese is freaking me out but I need it!
Not a real wrap...not real cheese...Fun with faux food! At least the mayo is real!
Seriously though...the "cheese" looks interesting, I might try it.
whoa, i need these stat.
xo the egg out west.
Melissa, you just made my year! And thats saying a lot since it's only the 5th of January! Thanks for the tip, I am going to go scope these out at my local Whole Foods!

Yummy cheesey goodness!!!
I bought the cheese- the jalapeƱo kind. So freaking good.
Hi, I saw this on pinterest. Can you tell me if the almond cheese has casein in it? I am allergic to casein and many fake cheeses claim to be dairy free but have casein. Thanks!
@Anonymous yes! it does have casein in it...i don't know enough about dairy allergies which is why I didn't mention it, but it sounds like you should avoid it :(
:( thanks for replying so quickly. This was pinned as "dairy free" but if it has casein it is not dairy free (i.e. not safe for people with casein/dairy allergy). Bummer. The coconut wraps look good though. I'll have to look for them.
Try coconut butter to replace the dairy butter. So much better for you.
